A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Brooke and Steve Giannetti at their booksigning and presentation at Ainsworth Noah in Atlanta. See her post of their Atlanta visit here. I have been a follower of Brooke’s blog for several years now, and she is just as kind in person as she is on Velvet & Linen.

If you have not seen their recently published book, Patina Style I highly recommend it! It is filled with photographs of their projects and discusses their design philosophies. I was surprised when they shared that Steve took many of the pictures! His tips, including his opinion that images read better when they are taken straight on instead of angled, made a lot of sense and inspired me to learn more about it. I have always said that if I had to choose a different career it would be a photographer for National Geographic, so we will see how it goes!

Brooke and Steve have been in the forefront of combining traditional architecture with subtle Swedish and Belgian inspired colors and antiques, infused with more gritty industrial pieces. I love how this approach heightens the element of texture in their projects, resulting in peaceful and inviting spaces that are filled with contrasting textures. Brooke’s blog has been a way to document their evolution, projects and inspirations. The way she has invited her readers into her work was such an ispiration to me as I was starting my own Journal.

My main takeaway from Brooke and Steve’s presentation in Atlanta was to be constantly inspired by the world around you and to dream big! They are now chasing their dream as they design and build their dream home, Patina Farm. The drawings on her blog look wonderful, but I am sure that the project will become more and more special as it becomes a reality. I am excited to follow the progress as their dream of Patin Farm is realized.
